Note on the velocity fields: We are limiting the range of the velocity magnitudes in the plots of
surface current and current as a function of depth. The fields contain noise
in some small areas, including near the open boundaries. Large velocities
are clipped in the graphics to facilitate visualization of the dominant
velocity patterns. The following maximum velocity values are being used:
