MMAB FTP Products Translation Table
This list contains links for availability of some digital files which
are available on polar for other systems, where they exist.
Polar is not and never has been supported around the clock (24x7). Fortunately there are alternate systems which carry some or all of polar's digital products, some of which have 24x7 support.
The system ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov is 24x7 supported and its data feed is 24x7 supported. It does not have all digital products for operational branch products. All files are under different paths than on polar. And most files have different names. The name translation is given below, along with notes on what does not exist here.
The system ursus-marinus.ncep.noaa.gov is an exact copy of polar: same files under same paths. Unfortunately, if polar cannot be updated then neither can ursus-marinus.
The system ftp.polar.ncep.noaa.gov contains most of what polar does. The main difference being retention period for larger product sets is shorter here. Path names differ only in that you must omit /pub from the path. System is 24x7 supported (hardware) but will not update if polar cannot update.
The system http://nomads6.ncdc.noaa.gov/data.html includes RTOFS and Wavewatch III model output. If we cannot update polar, however, neither can we update nomads6. The system is 24x7 supported. Access is not elementary ftp, but http access is available.
You can double check which are operational product sets on our listing at http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/mmab/products.shtml.
